Sightseeing flight

Not much to post tonight as today was mostly spent traveling. I was at LGA pretty early - I am pathetically, pathologically early - so I got on an earlier flight to Washington, DC. The flight was uneventful ... flying into DC, however, was nothing short of amazing. The plane took the "river approach" along the Potomac, and within the space of a few minutes I saw the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument, the White House, and Washington National Cathedral. Wow. That alone was worth the otherwise completely unnecessary stop in DC.

I also realized I like domestic flights: relaxed security people at the airport, relaxed flight attendants, and relaxed people on the plane. There was this gate attendant at the airport in DC who was trying to round up one last missing passenger for his flight. What he said was - after the normal "Would Peter Something please come to Gate 40 ..." - "Yo, Pete, the door's closing, we're leaving. Come on over to Gate 42." After a few minutes he repeated the call - the absolute final call as he said - and ended that with "Hey, Pete, where ya at?" As I said, relaxed.

The airport in Phoenix is more or less downtown, so it's quite easy to get around. I found a motel along one of the main roads, right up the street from where the shady ladies of the night do their business, and then took a drive through downtown Phoenix and to the State Capitol, just to get a feel for my rental car, a nice, shiny silver Toyota Rav4. Downtown was pretty dead, however, so I'm now sitting on my bed in my motel room doing what I do best: playing on the Interwebs.

Since I didn't really take any photos today I'll just post a few more of NYC ... You'll forgive, I'm sure. And if not, you can just ignore them.
