1,000 miles and counting

I hit the 1,000 mile mark today, although it doesn't really feel that way. Must be because I haven't driven large distances in one stretch. The 300 miles I clocked today are among the longest stretches so far.

I woke up to another icy car and to temperatures in the single digits (3F or -16C). I found out what exactly happens when you forget a can of coke in the car over night in weather like this ... the can was all deformed this morning, and frozen solid.

The first half hour of driving was difficult as the road was covered in snow and ice until I hit the major highway. From then on it was OK. The snow only reached me this afternoon as I was exploring Arches National Park. Not that I did that much hiking there because it was simply too cold to be outside of the car for too long. The temperatures supposedly were higher than they were in Bryce but the thick cloud cover and the wind made it so much colder. Plus, it wasn't really fun to walk around in the snow with my camera.

When I hit Moab I got myself a room for tonight and tomorrow as I felt like staying somewhere for more than one night. It is now snowing continuously outside and I'm quite happy that I don't have to go anywhere again tonight.

Tomorrow I'd like to explore The Island In The Sky in Canyonlands National Park and maybe Dead Horse Point State Park but as usual it all depends on the weather.
